Parent Information

Important details for parents of dual enrollment students.

FERPA & Student Privacy

Because your student is enrolling in college courses, college privacy laws (FERPA) apply. College instructors will communicate only with the student, not the parents.

We encourage parents to support their students, but students must take ownership of their communication, scheduling, and coursework.

LNC Dual Enrollment Policy

Extremely importantRead this before registering or dropping any course.

This policy ensures that students understand the commitment required when enrolling in college-level coursework. It maintains the integrity of high school and college transcripts, prevents gaps in course schedules, and reinforces the expectation that all students are capable of meeting the academic challenges presented.

Transcripts & Dropped Courses

  • Any CPCC course a student registers for will be placed on both the LNC and college transcripts.
  • Any student who withdraws from a CPCC course or is dropped for any reason without replacing it with a new course in the same semester will receive an F on their high school transcript.
  • Courses may not be dropped due to difficulty, as all courses offered are college-level and inherently rigorous. Students are expected to remain enrolled for the duration.

Course Load Requirements

Students must register for at least half or more of their total CPCC courses in the first semester and may complete the remaining courses in the second semester.

Check-Ins & Drop Protocol

  • Require quarterly check-ins and progress updates to monitor progress.
  • Must fill out a change request form and meet with HS Counselor before dropping any courses.

Exceptions

A medical or compassionate withdrawal approved by CPCC is the only exception. You must notify your counselor before the class ends. The appeal must be completed and approved before the end of the grading period, or your "W" will remain an "F" on LNC’s transcript. Once documentation is provided from CPCC, your LNC transcript will be updated.

College Credit Options

Understanding AP vs. CCP Dual Enrollment.

Students have multiple ways to earn college credit while at LNC. It is important to choose the right path for your academic goals.

AP Courses Advanced Placement

Taught at LNC. College credit is awarded based on the score you receive on the final AP Exam (usually a 3, 4, or 5 is required, depending on the university).

CCP Dual Enrollment

Taught by CPCC instructors. You earn actual college transcript grades. Credit is guaranteed to transfer to participating universities if you pass the class with a 'C' or higher.

Transferring Courses

How to send your earned credits to your future 4-year university.

Sending AP Scores

If you have taken Advanced Placement (AP) exams, your high school transcript does not automatically grant you college credit at your chosen university. You must send official score reports directly through your College Board account.

Sending CPCC Transcripts

To receive credit for your dual enrollment courses, you must send your official CPCC transcript to your future university. You do this through the National Student Clearinghouse website.
